What is MBTI?

MBTI stands for Myers Briggs Type Indicator. It's a personality inventory that characterizes the psychological behavior of an individual using 4 letters, each representing 2 ends of a spectrum:

1. INTROVERTED (I) VS EXTRAVERTED (E)

An introvert is someone who tends to be energized from alone time, or interaction with small social groups. They often have to put more energy into socializing, and prefer the peace and quiet over hangouts with larger groups of people. Amid large groups of people, introverts tend to retreat and hide their voice.

An extrovert is more inclined to spend time with others. They're drawn to social events and lively settings, and enjoy getting to know new people. They tend to form ideas and opinions out loud with ease and confidence, and don't get nervous talking face to face with others.

2. SENSING (S) VS INTUITIVE (N)
3. THINKING (T) VS FEELING (F)
4. JUDGING (J) VS PERCEIVING (P)

Whilst MBTI does manifest in our daily lives, it's important to note that it's not a definitive or scientifically validated measure of personality. There are many nuances in human behavior that MBTI does not explain- although a thorough understanding of it can help you gain insight on why you might act a certain way.

Beyond these letters, there also exists 8 functions. Each type possesses 4 functions, and each function is labelled extroverted or introverted.
